in celebrities, her confessions

After first hearing a song I fell so hard for on SimplYounique’s channel, I had to find out who was this artist with swoon worthy vocals. I found out it was Alicia James!  Alicia is an up & coming, r & b-soul artist with a smooth and charming voice.  She also happens to have awesomely big, natural hair. I was elated when she agreed to interview! Here goes….

Congrats on the release of your music video ‘Seven‘. In that video (see below) your hair was big and beautiful. How did you achieve that?
It was a blow out and Bantu knot out!

How long have you been natural?
I have been natural for 33 months

What made you decide to go natural?
Honestly, I didn’t know anything about going natural. My hair was really damaged and was literally falling out of my head from relaxers. After I went natural, I discovered the natural hair community and
became inspired in so many ways, and learned to embrace my natural beauty even more!

Who are your celebrity natural hair inspirations?
I love Amel Larreiux, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu had some hot hair, including the wigs, and I love when she is bald!

While natural, what is the one biggest regret /mistake you made?
The biggest mistake I made in the beginning was, getting lazy with my hair and wearing extensions for about 7 months. I wasn’t caring for my hair properly. I didn’t moisturize, my hair did not grow as much as it could have the first year.

What is the craziest hairstyle or treatment you have done to your hair?
LOL! I haven’t done like a syrup treatment or anything! LOL! I keep it simple, so I don’t think I’ve done anything crazy YET!

What is your current relationship with your hair?
We are one! LOL! I feel like now, I know what it needs, I know how to retain length, I know how to keep my hair happy!

What is the trick or technique are you most thankful for finding out about?
Thanks to Kimmaytube I learned about moisturizing with water daily, even if I am just spraying with a spray bottle, and then seal with oil or product of choice.

What specific products can you not live without?
I must have my extra virgin olive oil

What advice would you give to someone considering going natural?
I would say, do it when you are ready. Also keep it simple. Remember that it’s your hair, and you can do with it as you please, if it makes you happy that is all that matters.

Where can we find out more info about you and your hair?
