Shrinkage! For many Naturals, this is the bane of our hair’s existence. If you are not afraid of indirect heat and a little tugging, this elongating technique may be for you.
These twists (above) are about a week old. I have been wearing them in a bun for the most part, but they are now old and shrunken. Lately I’ve been pushing my styles to last 2 full weeks (practicing for an upcoming vacation to the islands), but I also get bored very quickly and need to change things up a bit within those two weeks. Here is what I did:
1. Moisturized each single twist – Remember, it has been a week and a little moisture goes a long way [tutorial filmed using a skin cream as a hair moisturizer — review soon to come]
2. Holding the ends, stretched a section of hair while blowing heat up and down the shaft of the twist – The use of a concentrator allows heat to be narrowed to a specific area
3. Untwisted each section starting at the ends – Be very careful while doing this as shed hairs may get tangled causing knots
