Jill Scott Gives Essence Magazine an Ultimatum — Natural Hair or Nothing!

Jilly from Philly lands the cover of Essence exuding much confidence and sporting a teeny weeny afro (TWA)! According to TheYBF the songstress “staged sort of a coup” demanding that she wears her natural hair on the cover or she wasn’t doing the photo spread at all.

In the issue, Jill goes on to share:

This is the simplest form of myself. I look in the mirror and it’s like, ‘Hey, there you go. What’s up, girl?’ For me, hair is an accoutrement. Hair is jewelry. It’s an accessory. Tomorrow I may want a wig down to my butt and I’m gonna rock it, and the next day I may want a big Afro and I’m gonna rock that too…

Jill has covered Essence several times before going back to 2003. Each time her tresses looking just a different as the last.

What’s your two cents?

Wow. She is doing the damn thing with that chop! Love it. Love her. She has never looked more beautiful in my opinion. Shoot, I may have to go renew my Essence subscription after seeing a cover that fierce.
