I Straightened My Hair & I Like It BUT…

in my hair, straight hair, tutorial

I’m probably not going to leave it straight for long or wear it down LOL.  It’s only been a few days and I miss my kinks — they are so much more forgiving. Know what I mean?

About the Hair
I didn’t do anything much different that my usual when it comes to flat ironing my hair. Of course I treated it overnight to reduce the possibility of heat damage.

  • Pre-pooed Overnight.
  • Shampooed
  • Deep Conditioned
  • Tension Blow Dried w/ Brush
  • Flat Ironed
  • Trimmed

Curious about the tool I’m using?  It’s called a straightening comb and it is made from ceramic, which prevents melting when used with heat tools .

I typically use Silk Elements + oils and honey as my pre-poo and  CHI shampoo and the thermal treatment as my deep conditioner. I copped this pair on clearance on my last trip to Marshall’s aka Frugal McDugal Land 🙂

Very nice! I recently pressed mine too! I only do this once a year so I can take care of my hair to retain length. Look forward to seeing your video. 🙂

Your hair looks gorgeous.

Thanks Ms. W! 🙂

Can’t wait to see the video. Your hair looks amazing. I want to do mine, but I know I’ll probably wash it out after a week. lol

westNDNbeauty November 20, 2012 at 9:47 am

Thanks Dijah. I week is just what I’m looking at myself lol

It really looks nice. I know what you mean about wearing your natural curls. Since I been natural I haven’t flat iron my hair. Next year I’m going to blow my hair out for the very first time, really excited about that!

westNDNbeauty November 20, 2012 at 9:50 am

Temporarily altering the texture is a nice change, but the kinks and curls is where it’s at!

AmeeraNakisha November 20, 2012 at 1:48 am

Looking good as usual!

westNDNbeauty November 20, 2012 at 9:48 am

Thanks Ameera! Can always count on you doll!

Pretty! I thought you used silk elements for your deep conditioner?

westNDNbeauty November 20, 2012 at 9:46 am

Hey Nika! I did use Silk Elements. It was my pre-poo mixed with a few oils. I typically DC twice when straightening.

nika November 20, 2012 at 2:38 am

Oh,why don’t you like it by the way?

westNDNbeauty November 20, 2012 at 9:54 am

I do like it lol but straight hair is slightly boring after the first hour. Though I will spice things up with various styles. Maybe I’ll remember take photos share on Instagram.

nika November 21, 2012 at 5:18 am

lol! I know what you mean. Just the thought of it bores me. smh But I’ll still do just to see how much length I’ve retained. 🙂

HonestlyErica November 23, 2012 at 12:39 pm

It looks great!

It looks really good! I love it actually, but I can relate to missing your hair. When I flat ironed last year in February, I liked my hair, but I did not wear it down…I did a lil twisty thing around my head until it reverted. I probably won’t be flat ironing any time soon. 🙂

How are people getting these fantastic results with straightening?! I tried to do my own once and it was ter-i-ble. I need some tips, some enouragement, something. Even though I prefer my curls on an average day, I want to have versatility and options.

Looks awesome as always!! Nice to see it straight.
Thank for sharing.

Your hair is fab!!! With all the deep conditioning done, does that mean that you do not need or use a heat protectant?

westNDNbeauty December 2, 2012 at 9:42 pm

I don’t really believe in heat protectant, but I do believe that well conditioned hair will less likely experience heat damage.

AmeeraNakisha December 4, 2012 at 6:36 pm

I don’t use a heat protectant either. It makes my hair dry after a few days. I use your perm pre-poo method from your first video and my hair is good for at least 2 weeks. If I don’t do that first overnight my hair NEVER turns out as silky.

Tamoniva February 5, 2013 at 10:44 am

Beautiful results.

sher February 18, 2013 at 3:52 pm

dont know if you said it. Did you put additional heat protectant and oil for frizz control on your hair before flat ironing? Or is the pre-poo sufficient?

westNDNbeauty February 18, 2013 at 5:57 pm

The pre-poo is sufficient. When my hair is straight, the coconut oil that was absorbed in the prepoo process makes it way out once my flat ironed hair is wrapped and warmed by a little body heat.

Love your hair! I completely understand where your coming from, I recently straighten my hair and I was in love with it for about two days. After those two days I was like where are my curls lol.
