THE REVIEW

STEP 1: Don’t Be So Clingy Hair Detangler ($13)
I applied this to damp hair that was sectioned into 4. My curl pattern immediately intensified and curls were very springy. The detangler provided decent slip and allowed me to remove shed hairs easily and detangle with a wide tooth comb. I twisted my hair and applied my heat therapy wrap.  The product sat for about 2 hours as a prepoo.
Scent: Citrus

STEP 2: Wash Me Gently Hair & Scalp Cleanser ($13)
With my hair still in the 4 sections, I rinsed the detangler and then applied the cleanser section by section starting with my scalp.  Let me tell you, the pads of my fingers were working overtime and I probably used more product than necessary; not because my hair was extremely dirty, but simply because there are no suds. None. Zip. Zilch! That surprised me because I have watched the videos created by Luv Naturals about each product and I definitely saw cowash-like suds in Kim’s hair as she demonstrated the smoothing technique. Though clean, my hair felt a bit stripped, tangled and looked frizzy after using this shampoo. I guess it is expected considering the pH of cleansers intends to raise the cuticles to release particles and clean the hair. Also, I expected my scalp to tingle similar to my Trader Joe’s Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner based on the ingredients, but I didn’t experience that.
Scent: Peppermint

STEP 3: Conditional Love Conditioner ($13)
This conditioner has nice thickness and slip, though not the most slippage in the product line. Continuing with my hair in 4 sections, I added enough to cover root to tip of each strand, donned my therapy wrap and chilled out for 3 hours.  Upon rinsing, the tangles that were created by the shampoo were easily combed out with a big tooth comb as the water ran over my hair. My hair felt great! This step in the routine definitely helped to adjust/counter the pH of my hair that was caused by the shampoo resulting in frizz and tangles.
Scent: None

STEP 4: Love Me & Leave-In Conditioner ($14)
I applied this while my hair was damp, section by section. First impression — Slip like whoa! They way it performed reminded me of Kinky Curly’s Knot Today detangler and leave-in. I braided my hair in 8 plaits allowing my hair in air dry. Eight hours later my hair was still wet. I decided I’d blow dry — even that process took extended drying time, about 30 minutes extra. After I blow dried, my hair looked very dull and did not feel smooth. There was a weird coating that determined the fate of how I would style my hair for the week since I was too lazy to wash my hair again — cornrowed protective style (stay tuned to my YouTube channel[+]).

MORE: Kitchen Beautician| KimmayTube’s Homemade Leave-in Recipe

Like KimmayTube’s homemade leave-in, this product had tons of slip and helped to easily detangle damp hair. My hair took forever took forever to dry using both products as well. Unlike the homemade my hair was not significantly moisturized. I immediately used another product to counteract the after effects of the Love Me & Leave-in Conditioner.
Scent: Berry Crunch Cereal (lol it does not smell completely like a berry extract, there is a hint of something else )

All in all,  I would probably repurchase the Conditional Love if there was a sale, but the most I’ve seen is 15% off and that really does not offset the starting shipping of $7+ for one product.

Have you used any products from this line?

I’ve used the products and am in love. The shampoo suds for me like on the demo video and I get a slightly stripped feeling, but nothing like when I use shampoo. I guess I don’t notice any frizz because I condition while I’m in the shower. I shampoo at the sink to conserve water , rinse, and put in the conditioner and let it work while I take my shower. I rinse it and use the leave in to do a twist out. A little goes a long way with all of her products, so I didn’t experience any dullness. As a matter of fact, my hair had a nice shine without having to add any additional oil. I get the same shine using the leave in for my wash and go. It dries frizz free too. Before using Luv naturals I could never get away with using no gel. I have switched to using these products for cleansing my hair. My sister is about to get a huge goodie box. Once she releases the stylers I’ll be good to go.

So there will be stylers? Interesting. Thanks For sharing your experience with the products!

I have used the shampoo and the leave in, which were the only 2 products in stock at the time of my purchase. For me the shampoo is average for a cleanser with no sulfates and parabens. I like the leave in, makes me hair very soft and fluffy but does have the weird coating that you spoke about, at least until my hair dries.

Never realized she went out of stock on some items. I’ll probably have all items in a future blog sale *wink wink*. Thanks for commenting!

I purchased the whole line but only consistently use the shampoo (which suds for me) and the conditioner, which I find works great, even when I am going to flat iron my hair.

I believe the leave in conditioner she fashioned to be used on wet hair for protective styles. I use your sig style weekly and stretch with moderate heat so I find that the leave in and detangler are not really useful for me.

Also, my hubby & son keep using the shampoo (not sure why, when they have low cuts) but I can’t keep it!

I wonder if she has made any changes to her formula in the short time it has been out, specifically the shampoo. Cause I was darn sure was stressing wondering where the darn suds were.

You just reminded me that I might have to give my hair a break and go back to my heatless signature style.

Thanks for commenting as always!

I just noticed that the pH of Luv Naturals leave in has changed from 4.0-4.5 to 4.5-6.0. Anyone else notice this change? I bought it when it was 4.0-4.5 (so I have the old formula). I went back to buy more, and saw that the pH of it went up! Four point five to six is a very high jump! I depended on the 4.0-4.5 pH level. All of my fam used my products and raved about them. Hmmm….not sure I wanna buy the new formula!

I purchased the entire line when she launched and I love everything except the shampoo. I don’t recall getting any suds either and it just didn’t wow me. I’m in no hurry to repurchase until there is a mega sale. The leave in I prefer to use as a refresher. It yields nice fluffy hair.

I havent used this line yet. I’m hoping it will be in an upcoming Curlkit. Do you know if she offers samples?

westNDNbeauty April 2, 2013 at 5:15 pm

Not sure. But she barely (if anytime) has sales and I haven’t heard of samples being available anytime in the near future.

i also got the entire line but funny enough the shampoo was my favorite product out of the entire line. I was my first take on a cleanser so i used way to much, but my hair did not dry out and was clean but not stripped. I was not a fan of the de-tangler and the conditioner was just regular. I liked the leave in, and my hair had no issue drying with it. Its soo funny how different hair re-acts differently to the same product.

westNDNbeauty April 3, 2013 at 6:49 pm

Very true. I do wonder if hair type (though some consider typing confining) plays a role as well. What’s your hair type? I’m 4a with a little 4b.

Hey West I have tried the entire line also. The prepoo/detangler worked and made my curls intensify as well. The shampoo had some sud to it, but most sulfate free shampoos do not sud up. I have used three different brands prior to this and from Diva Care to Tresemme none of them really sud up. I do understand the stipped feeling, not totally stripped, but not fully moisturized. I did like the way my curl pattern felt afterward though! I had to use a ton of conditioner though! I used about 1/3 of the bottle, but I do have color treated hair and it is somewhat thick. The leave-in does feel like a coating until it dries and yes both products take a while to dry, but my hair has never felt healthier. I will continue to use them until they are gone to see if I get different results each time. I would say try the leave-in when you are doing a twist and curl or twist out style that does not require blow drying when you can let it fully dry to see if you notice a difference. If not, I will be stalking to see when you’ll be posting to sell, lol.

I had to come back and do a follow up! The leave in is a bust! It is nothing like the kimmay tube leave in from youtube. It coats the hair, dries fine, but the next day the hair feels dry and wax coated! I will probably use the prepoo and conditioner and give away the rest, won’t be looking for the sell! LOL

Thanks for the follow up!
