A few weeks ago I completed a full product review [+] on the Super Duper Hydrating Hair Cream. Last week I decided to order during KBBs flash sale since Super Duper was the freebie. Today I finally got the product and boy am I surprised!  I opened the jar to find a product not of the same consistency as the jar I’d bought locally or the sample I got from my bff, KayJay. #RealTalk I had to look at the label to make sure I got the right product.

I understand there are variances in product texture and color when dealing with natural ingredients, but this is a significantly noticeable difference. It looks like a completely different product. Completely.

The above product’s consistency is more of a spongy, clumpy, grainy, wet cream. This was the texture of the product I used for my original product review.

The consistency of the  above is very rich, creamy, and smooth. It reminds me of the texture of QB’s Alma & Olive Cream. I haven’t seen KBB in my local Target, but this jar appears to have updated packaging. Could this be the consistency of the products found in Target stores? Did this melt and re-solidify? Is this what the product looks like with intense mixing?

superduper2I haven’t used the product just yet to determine if the performance is similar for both products. I know some may argue that the same ingredients and recipe should yield the same results, but I look at it this way — when baking bread, you may have all of the same ingredients in two different batches of bread, but if you knead one more than the other, both breads will look AND taste differently from each other.

The verdict is still out. Stay tuned!

I also have the super duper butter. To be quite honest looking at the pic’s you’ve provided here. The jar I own doesn’t look like neither of the two, But if I had to pick one of the pictures my jar would be close to the creamer texture. But even then my jar is not as creamy. I wish it was more creamy like the one you’ve shown here.

Not sure, why . Looking forward to your update. Have a fabulous weekend. Take care.

Oh wow! Never realized their products were so variable. I’ll def let you know how it goes!

I think the jar you bought locally has been sitting on the shelf longer. I had the same experience with my Shea Moisture Curl Smoothie. I bought a new jar because my old one was finishing. (It took me a long time to finish the first jar because I kept trying different products) Anyways, the consistency of the new jar was creamy and smooth while my old/finishing jar was thick and clumpy (looks exactly like your pic). I assume the natural ingredients will clump and solidify over time.

Thanks for commenting. Actually I did mention that my original review was done using a sample I got from my bff. That sample looked exactly like the product I got locally. Note that my bff orders her product directly from KBB and there was no change in texture from the time she got it and the time she gave me a sample.

I went out and bought a jar yesterday because I was in the market for a cream moisturizer. After your review I had to try. Let me say first thank you for your honest reviews because when you suggest things they actually work for me. Like B.A.S.K. for post henna conditioning. WOW!!!!!! My holy grail. I use nothing else after henna. So when you said KBB I decided to give it a shot. And I love. My hair feels so soft n shiny. The ingredients were good so I splurge and I’m glad I did. Now I’m thinking of going back to try the leave in. Would you recommend buying it? Btw my jar looks nothing like any of the two in your pictures. Hey if it works the same then it doesn’t matter.

Thanks so much for commenting! I’m glad my advice was useful.

The Sweet Ambrosia works nicely with the Super Duper and it’s worth a try.

So many are telling me their jar looks like neither. I wish I could see what your jar of Super Duper looks like. Care to post on my FB or e-mail it? I’m very curious. I will say that I used my new jar this weekend and that resulted in me contacting KBB…

Are you going to be at the natural hair show Apr 27-28 in atl?

Unfortunately I won’t be. I was quite disappointed in the organization they’ve had on my last two and only visits.

Hi. Your review tempted me, so when I saw this cream in Target, I took a peek.. No, it didn’t look like either jar pictured here. Lol. Also, it wasn’t filled to the top like your jars. I ended up buying the Camille Rose Almond Jai Twisting Butter instead (which I love). I still may try the KBB, but maybe I should order it online. Thanks for your review and follow-up.

Goodness! Note that I actually ordered my jar directly from her website. Personally, I’d probably resort to purchasing on the ground because I’d be able to take a peek inside the jar to find out if it is the right consistency.

I noticed the same difference between my two super duper hydrating hair creams. The first that I bought looked exactly like the first that you had and it worked wonderfully. But the newer creamier one is NOT the same at all. When I use it my hair becomes stiff and frizzy. I’ve tried the product after three different washes and I always get the same bad results. I really loved the old mixture. After trying the new mixture I will not be purchasing it again. I was afraid that something like this was gonna happen when they began to mass market their products. I don’t believe that the product melted it has just changed and not for the good in my opinion.

Thanks for commenting! This is very disappointing and the 2nd time I’ve experienced a smaller company growing into mass production and the product no longer working the same, even though the vendor says there were no formula changes.
