How long have you been natural?
My last perm was December 2012 and I big chopped January 2014.
What made you decide to go natural?
My cousin big chopped four years before me but I was still ignorant and didn’t think my hair could be beautiful too. Her father is Puerto Rican and Native American so I thought that must be why her hair was so beautiful. It wasn’t until college when I saw black girls with natural hair that I began toying with the idea. Then I got a perm that scarred me and I never looked back!
What is your current relationship with your hair?
I’m in love. Her name is Nina. She gets me.
What is the trick or technique you are most thankful for finding out about?
Proper protective styling and the LOC method! Both are sent from heaven.
While natural, what is the one biggest regret /mistake you made?
Waiting so long to cut my permed ends. I was holding on to dead hair because I still was insecure about natural hair.
What is the craziest hairstyle or treatment you have done to your hair?
Nothing crazy! I’ve been learning my hair this far. But I plan on a few wild things in the future. 😉
What specific products can you not live without?
Organix shampoo/conditioner sets and as I am hair milk.
What advice would you give to someone considering going natural?
It’s going to seem hard in the beginning, but you’ll look back later and think “Wow, that was a breeze!”. You really have to let go of the image you have of yourself, and realize a new you is growing.
