B.A.S.K. Beauty’s (now known as Bekura Beauty) signature of intriguing names and equally unique spa products for hair are what set them apart from the masses. This extra effort they’ve put into branding (likened to food) has absolutely paid off and have gotten myself and many others to bite on that notion alone. Pun intended.
Recently, Bekura Beauty released two new products, which are both innovative (for their brand), considering the Apple & Sorghum Supple Hair Syrup and Fatty Coconut Cleansing Froth are the first hair oil and shampoo in the product line.
Fatty Coconut Hair Cleansing Froth (8 oz, $14)
I was initially intrigued by the description alone — froth. I then search for reviews and found this, which set the bar high!
Of course it smelled like tropical goodness. I applied a quarter-sized amount to each section of wet hair and it lathered well…like a shampoo, duh. But there was nothing outside of the norm when it came to sudsy-ness. My hair and scalp didn’t feel stripped and was clean upon rinsing.
Apple & Sorghum Supple Hair Syrup (4.5 oz, $14)
The most noticeable characteristic of this oil is the fragrance — smells much like apples but is more perfumey than any other hair product from this brand I’ve reviewed. It is reminiscent of the synthetic scent of Bath & Body Works products. The viscosity is similar to that of olive oil.
I applied it to my hair as a sealant, while twisting. Honestly, there was anything significant about this oil that I experienced. Don’t get me wrong, the oil quickly absorbed and made my hair shiny, but it didn’t feel like it did anything beyond what basic oils already do for my hair.
For those seeking a sulfate-free shampoo, add this one to your list. But if you are looking for the magical froth, this is probably not for you. Similarly, the hair oil is not something I would go out of my way to repurchase. Let there be a 40% off sale and I would reconsider. Ultimately, I think the hair oil is great hair perfume or scent refresher, but I will continue to look towards my ayuervedic oils for long-term use, especially on my scalp.
