I blogged about this brand’s styling products a few years ago when I did my best friend’s hair for her wedding. Not sure what took so long to try them on my own hair — oh wait I do know — I was intimidated by the thickness of the butter. I didn’t think it would work well on my finer hair, but Koils by Nature (KBN) had a recent sale that caught my attention so I decided to try. The items came within four days — I live about 40 miles from the shipping location.
Shealoe Leave-in (12 oz, $22)
This creamy, pH balanced leave-in has a neutral scent and is of an easy to pour or squeeze out of a bottle consistency. I used it on freshly washed and conditioned hair while twisting for the purposes of overnight air drying. The slip is quite redic! That makes it a good candidate for a detangler.
The next morning, there was nothing significant about the way my hair looked or felt. As usual, I followed with a shot of hot hair to stretch for a smooth elongated twisted style. Surprisingly, my hair was so darn soft without any additional product — just what was used when my hair was wet.
I followed by styling my super soft hair in twists with a mixture of the butter and a drop of leave in (smaller than a dime) for each medium-sized twist. A little goes a long way and with this leave-in.
Nourishing Hair & Body Butter (4 oz, $13)
As mentioned, this butter is very dense. Actually, it looks quite different than what I used to style my friend’s hair three years ago; that butter was yellow and clumpy; this butter is white and smooth. I ordered the marvelous mango scent, but it really doesn’t smell as fruity as I anticipated. If you are sensitive to scents, this probably will not bother you much.
Due to the thickness, it requires a bit of friction to heat and melt for easy spreading. I used a tiny amount of this product on each section to immediately twist once moisturized by the leave-in. In the end, my twists were shiny and soft.
I’ve heard KBN’s Shealoe leave-in referred to as creamy crack — I must say that’s an accurate description. This line is quite nourishing and very economical! #RealTalk — a little goes a long way. I used enough to slightly dampen each section with the leave-in and butter. This ensured there would be definition for a future twist out and there was. The definition also maintained quite well and my hair didn’t feel heavy or greasy — just airy, defined and moisturized.
These products, including the CocoAloe Ultra-Moisturizing Deep Conditioner, will be purchased again!
