Henna Gloss Bar
Price: $12 (4.5 oz.)
Where to Buy:
Product Claims: Our Henna Gloss Bar is the perfect all in one moisturizer, and conditioning Ayurvedic hair treatment. A henna gloss is a very easy to use henna product that will nourish the hair, strengthen, create vibrant shiny hair, promote hair growth, reduces itchy scalp, and will give your hair a touch of red color from the henna.
Ingredients: organic cocoa butter, organic shea butter, organic henna…

Mixing + Application
Following the directions on the packaging, I melted the bar using a double boiler — and it took forever! Literally, 30 minutes passed before I was able to mix in my conditioner of choice. I slathered the mixture on my dirty, dry hair generously. I left it on for 6+ hours using a plastic cap and my therapy wrap.

Like any other henna product, tons of rinsing was involved. BUT! Like no other henna, my hair felt sooooo soft. Usually, henna treatments make my hair feel like straw and I need tons of co-wash conditioner, to not only to rinse the grit, but to assist in making it manageable just enough to add a deep conditioner.  In this instance, my hair was soft enough to proceed with a deep conditioner after rinsing with water only.

I followed with a nourishing honey conditioner for 1 hour and rinsed. Yooo! If I didn’t know any better, I would have attempted a wash and go! And y’all know I NEVER wash and go ANYWHERE! But that is just a testament to how soft, yet clumpy my kinks and curls were.  Ah-mazing!

Testing my luck, I let my hair air dry in braids with no product. Once my hair dried, it was still super soft! I stretched with a brief shot of heat and it became even softer — still no product was added. My cuticles were laid and the shine was evident.

I’ve never used a pre-made henna gloss before, but from my understanding it is supposed to be something that is heavy on conditioning agents (i.e. shea & cocoa butter) with a little henna to boost. But I have created henna mixes which had a ton of conditioner and slightly less henna, yet I’ve never garnered these results.

Since I received this as a press sample, I didn’t realize it was 12 bucks! Now that I’m aware, when I purchase this product I will cut the bar in half and see what kind of milage I can get after mixing it in with my conditioner. Hopefully my hair will be just as soft and shiny.

If you are in the market to try henna, start here! But I will admit my hair is partial to any product which has cocoa butter in a high concentration.

Henna Sooq has provided a 20% OFF using Vixen20 (case sensitive) specially for CoaBV readers:-) This can be applied to the henna gloss bar & sweet honey hair nourisher (exp. Dec 2014).

Oooh!! I want this henna bar but I do not like the price just for ONE. :”[

It looks like a huge dark chocolate bar. I wouldve loved to see how your hair looked after you rinsed it out. Great post COABV. :]

P.S. Can you enable right click on your site? I tried to right click on the link to Sweet Honey but it wouldnt let me. So I pressed it and it loaded within this browser. Ugh. I had to hit the back button. I love your blog and everything but that’s the only con.

Thanks for commenting Lipstick. I completely understand your sentiments about the price of the gloss bar. But stay tuned! Currently working out the details of a giveaway from Henna Sooq!

P.S. – I’ll consider tweaking things so that another window pops up when a link is clicked 🙂 Thanks, doll.

I got so excited when I read your review on CurlyNikki! I strictly buy my henna and other ayurvedic products from Henna Sooq because of the quality, price and the fact that it is easy to rinse their henna out of my hair! PLUS I can pick up my orders locally without having to pay shipping costs and I LOVE supporting local businesses.

Anyway, I’m excited to see a local business get some shine. I’m so glad you enjoyed the product.

I’m curious tho, how much henna did you have left? Was it enough to do 1 or 2 more henna gloss applications?

westNDNbeauty March 11, 2014 at 3:29 pm

Hi Trena, Supporting small businesses is a must! Henna Sooq has easily become my fav henna go to. After this application, I did not have any left. Next time I plan on using more of my own conditioner to stretch the application. I have a sample of the Raj henna so I’ll be trying that in a few weeks. Thanks for commenting 🙂

I’ve always wanted to try this. Thanks for showing us the melting process. Perhaps it would work better in small chunks, or if it was grated first?

I’ve never tried henna mainly because I’m afraid of what color my gray hair will be afterwards, but I really want to try it. This product sounds like the bees knees and a great way for a newbie like myself to try henna.

No problem. I’m glad Curly Nike’s site led me here. You have a nice blog. I really enjoyed using Red Raj. After using I totally understood why it sells out so quickly. It left my hair with a nice Cherry Coke color. I loved it!

I can’t wait to read your review of it.

ChocTaurus March 17, 2014 at 5:45 pm

Lady T January 22, 2015 at 8:13 pm

How much conditioner should I add to the henna bar as it melts.

West Parsons January 23, 2015 at 9:12 pm

It’s not an exact science. Try an amount which will bring the mixture to an amount to cover all of your hair.
